Getting Started - Important Bypass FAQ
What Bypass will work on my car and what does it do?
Please visit www.ifar.ca and look up your vehicle make, model and year by using the search tools located at the very top of the page. The Web site contains all the information needed to determine what bypass you need for your specific application including the required firmware version of updatable Bypass modules. Please note that alarm disarm is NOT transponder bypass. The information will clearly state Transponder bypass.
Where can I find a correct application guide?
Please visit www.ifar.ca for a complete application guide for your vehicle.
Which module should I carry?
Please visit www.ifar.ca to view the most common vehicles you do installs in. If your questions are not answered there, please contact your Fortin representative and he or she will sit down and address all your bypass concerns.
Why does the guide on line not match the guide that came with the product?
The guide on line is always the most current, up to date guide. It differs from the manual that came with the product because the information at the time it was packaged has since been updated. Always check the manuals available on the Web site for new and updated information whenever possible to get the lastest information before beginning the installation on the vehicle. Installation guides are updated frequently so check back often for the latest information with installation tips and tricks.
Why does the guide that came with my Bypass not include my vehicle?
Chances are you need a newer firmware version and a newer installation manual than the ones that came with the product. Please visit www.ifar.ca and look up the specific vehicle you are working with. The Web site will show you the specific minimum firmware version that is required to work with each specific vehicle. After updating the firmware on the product also download and review the latest installation guide.
Why doesn't my Bypass program?
Make sure you have the correct firmware loaded on the Bypass module and that you are using the latest installation instructions for your vehicle. Check all of the connections to both the vehicle and from the remote starter with a multi-meter. If you are using the Fortin data-link cable check that the remote-starter supports the Fortin protocol by referring to the list on the data-link section of our Web site.
What is the Fortin 1-way and 2-way data-link?
The data link protocol uses a RS232 port so the remote starter and Bypass module can communicate through data. Some features are available only through data-link mode. More information can be read on the data-link section of our Web site.
How do I flash update the firmware on my Bypass module?
You will need to order a FLASH-LINK UPDATER from a Fortin distributor. Once you have an updater download and install the Microsoft Windows software by visiting the FLASH-LINK Software section of our Web site. User guides to help you setup and use the FLASH-LINK software can all be downloaded here.
What firmware does my Bypass come with?
All Bypass modules are preloaded at the factory with the latest firmware available at the time of manufacture. But chances are you need a newer firmware version and a newer installation manual than the ones that came with the product. You can enter the serial number of the Bypass module on line to find out what firmware version a specific product has. The firmware history can be viewed on line in the Firmware History section of our Web site.
Where can I find information for the old Bypass modules?
Information for older Bypass modules that have been discontinued can still be viewed on line. They can either be found in the Classic Series, Obsolete Series, or found by entering the part number in the Search section of our Web site.
Can I reprogram the KEY-OVERRIDE to another vehicle after it has been previously programmed?
The KEY-OVERRIDE Bypass module will allow you to program it two times before it becomes locked. Once it is locked you cannot unlock it by re-flashing the firmware, it must be re-flashed at the factory. This is a safety feature that prevents the module from being learned to multiple vehicles.
Can a Fortin Bypass damage a vehicles computers or electrical system?
The greatest care has been taken in designing and producing our products. With the highest industrial grade components and state-of-the-art protection circuits, Fortin Bypass modules and products are designed to integrate seamlessly into all supported vehicles without risk of damage to the vehicles computers or electrical systems. Damage can occur as a result of installation error so it is very important to ensure the product is being installed by a certified technician or a qualified installer.
What do you mean by a certified technician or a qualified installer?
A certified technician is a person who has acquired legal accreditation as an automotive electrician in his or her state or province, and carries their practice with the proper tools and reference information with respect to local legal and safety regulations, be it either independently or while employed by an organization. Although some states or provinces may not have a legal accreditation for an automotive electrician a qualified automotive electronics installer is a person who has formal training similar to those who are a certified technician, but do not hold legal accreditation.
