Why theft protection is mandatory for the new Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep vehicles.
Theft protection is necessary when installing an after-market remote-starter in to a Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep vehicle with the new style electronic ignition barrel. If the interface module does not offer any theft protection the vehicle can be driven away by simply inserting any object in the key cylinder.
The following video demonstrates how a vehicles remote-starter can be taken over with just a finger and the vehicle can be driven away when using an interface module without theft-protection:
When using the INT-CHR2 a door trigger is not required to maintain the security of the vehicle. Instead the unlock wire from the remote-starter is connected to the INT-CHR2. If a foreign object is inserted in to the ignition barrel when an unlock pulse has not been triggered, the INT-CHR2 will immediately shut down the remote-starter. This method allows the driver to unlock the doors, get in to the vehicle and insert the key without the need to shut down the remote-starter.
