CAN-SL2 will not program or intermittent tachometer output with INT-VW.
This article applies to CAN-SL2 installations with a INT-VW2 or INT-VW3.
Symptom
One of the following situations will occur:
Problem A: The CAN-SL2 will have problems programming and will not program on the first attempt.
Problem B: The tachometer output through 2-way data-link is either intermittent or does not operate as expected.
Cause
A diode is required to isolate the ignition from the the remote car starter from powering the vehicle. The diode permits the remote starter to see voltage from the vehicles ignition so it does not shut down when attempting to remote start the vehicle, but prevents the output from the remote car starter from feeding the vehicles ignition since the INT-VW handles the electronic ignition.
The problem exists if the CAN-SL2 is connected on the remote car starter side of the diode. In this case the CAN-SL2 will have 12VDC at its ignition input when the vehicle is not running and the remote car starter is powering the ignition. If this is the case, the CAN-SL2 is connected to the wrong side of the diode and will cause timing issues that will prevent it from programming, or produce an intermittent tachometer output through data-link.
Solution
The Ignition input of the CAN-SL2 must only receive 12VDC when the vehicle is running and not when the remote car starter is powering the ignition. The ignition input must be connected on the vehicle side of the diode.
Unplug the CAN-SL2, move the ignition input from the remote car starter side of the diode to the vehicle side of the diode, reconnect the CAN-SL2 and re-program.
